Fluxes from soil moisture measurements (FluSM v1.0): a data-driven water balance framework for permeable pavements

چکیده
Abstract. Water fluxes at the soil–atmosphere interface are a key piece of information for studying terrestrial water cycle. However, measuring and modeling in vadose zone poses great challenges. While direct measurements require costly lysimeters, common soil hydrologic models rely on correct parametrization, representation involved processes, selection initial boundary conditions. In contrast to lysimeter measurements, moisture relatively cheap easy perform. Using such data-driven approaches offer possibility derive directly. Here we present FluSM (fluxes from measurements), which is simple, parsimonious robust balancing framework. requires only single input parameter (the infiltration rate) especially valuable cases where application Richards-based critical. Since permeable pavements (PPs) case, apply recently published data set obtain balance 15 different PPs over period 2 years. Consistent with findings previous studies, our results show that vertical drainage dominates PPs, while surface runoff plays minor role. An additional uncertainty analysis demonstrates ability FluSM-approach since uncertainties have small effect characteristics derived balances. Due lack behavior under field conditions, special interest urban hydrology.

The International Soil Moisture Network: a data hosting facility for global in situ soil moisture measurements
In situ measurements of soil moisture are invaluable for calibrating and validating land surface models and satellite-based soil moisture retrievals. In addition, longterm time series of in situ soil moisture measurements themselves can reveal trends in the water cycle related to climate or land cover change. Nevertheless, on a worldwide basis the number of meteorological networks and stations ...

Internal water balance of barley under soil moisture stress.
Leaf water potential, leaf relative water content, and relative transpiration of barley were determined daily under greenhouse conditions at 3 growth stages: tillering to boot, boot to heading, and heading to maturity. The leaf moisture characteristic curve (relative water content versus leaf water potential) was the same for leaves of the same age growing in the same environment for the first ...

Accurate determination of spatial soil moisture distribution and monitoring its temporal variation have a significant impact on the outcomes of hydrologic, ecologic, and climatic models. Development of a successful remote sensing instrument for soil moisture relies on the accurate knowledge of the soil dielectric constant ( soil) to its moisture content. Two existing methods for measurement of ...

A series of soil moisture experiments were conducted in 2003 (SMEX03) to develop enhanced datasets necessary to improve spatiotemporal characterization of soil moisture and to enhance satellite-based retrievals. One component of this research was conducted in South Central Georgia of the US, from June 17th to July 21st (SMEX03 GA). This study analyzes measurements of soil moisture and temperatu...
